Whitewater!!

Group Photo, Pre-Rafting

In a somewhat not totally but kind of successful attempt at staff bonding, we planned a whitewater rafting trip at work. The trip itself was highly successful and a LOT of fun. The not quite so successful part was that a lot of people wimped out and didn't dare to come (with every excuse from, "I don't want to get my hair wet" to "I'm going camping," etc), and when the weather report said "70," even more people bailed. The good news was that this left a few extra spots on the trip, and it just happened to be planned on a Friday that my sister had off work already, so Amy and Sterling came along! :)

My co-worker, Scott, was one of the three guides, and Amy, Sterling, and two of my co-workers and I chose his boat. I think this was a good choice. The other guides did a great job, but judging by the photos, we got the best ride for sure. :) We went down the Deschutes River out of Maupin, Oregon, and it was a really good time.

See? I told you we got a good ride! :)

It was GREAT to be able to hang out with Amy and Ster and let them meet some of my fun co-workers. I really, seriously work with some great, fun people. That is one of the best parts of this job for sure.

Scott held his extra long guide paddle up in the air over his head so you could see how deep we are--the photos are awesome! Some teenagers stand on the rocks along the river and snap these photos, then put them up on a website and sell them for $15 a pop...or you can just copy them in Paint or something tricky like Scott did for free. :)

It ended up being a really nice day, around 80 degrees. A little warmer would have been better, but it wasn't bad at all. We got to play in a natural waterslide for awhile and ride some rapids in our lifejackets (if we wanted to...which I did). Overall, it was a REALLY fun day, and something I hadn't done in a LONG time!

That looks awesome! And, is that Sterling overboard? Looks like one wild ride! :)

Yep, totally Ster overboard! He and one of my co-workers (Tracy) totally went over. He was totally fine, Tracy was freaking out. :) It was pretty crazy, though...everyone on my side fell into the middle, and everyone on the other side fell out. :)
